Identity Theft-Could It Happen To You?
Many, many years ago none us had such an “interesting identity” to steal but nowadays with our credit lifestyle and online purchases our identities have become far more interesting to those who are that way inclined.
Do you think that identity theft could not happen to you, well think again! According to a Fraud Survey over half of these crimes are instigated by someone that we know.
Naturally we don’t want to live our lives in paranoia and suspicion but there are some warning signals that could help you be aware of the possibility. They can be grouped into feelings of resentment, possible addictions and unusually inquisitive snoopy people.
Let’s look at the snoop firstly. Is there anyone in your life who seems to ask overly personal questions when there is no real apparent need? Even if it is someone close to you, they don’t need to know your social security number or other unnecessary details. Let’s put it this way don’t freak out over someone asking you your birthday so that they can buy you a present but do worry if they seem to be inquisitive about the year of birth, especially if you’re a woman cos us ladies know that this is sacred information.
A clever snoop will spread this questions out over more than one occasion so as not to seem strange, so if this is ringing any bells with you be very careful.
Resentment is a dangerous area and can include ex boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands or wives. Someone who was not setting out to be an identity thief may now from resentment start off on that road for pure vengeance.
If there is someone in your life who seems to be jealous or resentful of you play it ultra safe with information and always keep an eye on your affairs.
Addiction does not only cover the classic drug addiction but also shopaholics, gamblers, alcoholics and really any addiction that makes a person unstable and obsessive.
If a person is obsessive this can impair their judgement and open them up to possibilties that you may never consider. Don’t be fooled by people who are well presented either, as maybe they have done this type of thing before.
The author Liz Pullman Weston of MSN Money says “A small tough love may be the only method to stop a miscreant from getting a career criminal”
Whatever the circumstances are once you have the awareness that actually identity theft could happen to you then you are on the right road to prevention.
